After we pick you up, we’ll stop at a local market to select fresh vegetables and ingredients that will be used in the day’s meal preparation—a perfect way to begin this authentic culinary experience.

In this hands-on cooking class, you’ll prepare classic recipes like mbeju, sopa paraguaya, chipa guazú, and vori vori, along with a surprise dessert inspired by local traditions.

You’ll also have the chance to prepare and taste tereré, Paraguay’s refreshing national drink, along with a sample of Paraguayan caña, a traditional sugarcane spirit.

Using fresh, local ingredients, you'll gain insights into the techniques and cultural significance of Paraguayan cuisine. Whether it's kneading dough, crafting dumplings, or mastering the perfect balance of flavors, each step connects you to Paraguay's vibrant culinary traditions.

Throughout the day, you’ll taste each dish as it’s prepared, and the experience concludes with a shared meal featuring everything you’ve helped create. Many of the towns specialize in a specific artisan craft -- in fact, in many cases, hundreds of people in the community are dedicated to weaving or ceramics and it is a tradition that has been passed down through generations; Paraguayan crafts are an important part of the local economy, as well as the local culture.

Description

Embark on an day tour from Asuncion to Salto Cristal, a breathtaking natural wonder nestled in the heart of Paraguay.

Your journey begins with a comfortable drive of about 3.5 hours that will take you through the picturesque Paraguayan countryside, then dirt roads through fields of sugar cane,  providing a glimpse of rural life.

Once we reach the Salto Cristal park, we will descending more than a hundred stone steps to the stream. We then continue along the trails, and over river rocks and branches, as we carefully walk upstream and anticipation builds for the main attraction – a magnificent 45 meter waterfall cascading from the cliffs. Walk through the shallow water to approach the base of Salto Cristal to feel the invigorating spray of the crystal-clear waters or enjoy a serene view from rocks bordering the natural pool beneath the waterfall.  You can simply dip your toes in the cool waters, take a swim (lifejacket provided; seasonal), and capture amazing photographs.

Start at Estancia Olivares with a short hike where we will keep our eyes peeled for monkeys.

Throughout the afternoon, we will make stops at scenic spots along the riverbank, allowing you to see bird species, soak in the serenity of the surroundings, and capture breathtaking photos of the diverse flora and fauna. Description

Located about two and half hours from Asuncion,  Ybycuí National Park is located in the Paraguayan Atlantic Forest ecoregion and includes remnants of South Americans first iron foundry, as well as several waterfalls accessible by groomed trains.

Historical Iron Foundry & Museum

Constructed in the late 1850’s, La Rosada was a crucial part of the grand strategic plan of Carlos Antonio Lopez for the modernization and industrialization of Paraguay. The forests in what is now the Ybycui National Park provided all of the raw materials for the construction and daily operation of La Rosada. Much of the foundry was destroyed during the War of the Triple Alliance; La Rosada has now been partially restored and the former workers’ facilities have been set up as a museum; the small museum displays an interesting collection of the items produced by the foundry.

Hiking & Waterfalls

Near the picnic area, you can easily reach the the viewpoint of Salto Minas (8 meters). Continue along the trail for about 30 minutes to reach Salto Escondido (15 meters). Both waterfalls are in the midst of lush vegetation and cascade upon stones covered with ferns, lichens and other varieties of plants.

Time allowing, you can hike the longer 3km (out-and-back) uphill trail to Salto Guaraní (12 meters).

Difficulty: Easy-Moderate (trails with uneven terrain; walking distance 300 meters to 6+ km)
